Jeon Hangil Also Attends, Advocates 'Election Fraud Conspiracy Theory'
Jang Donghyuk: "This Is Not a Gathering Only for Those Who Share My Views"
Jang Donghyuk, a lawmaker frequently mentioned as a potential leader of the People Power Party, asserted on July 15 that, regarding party reform measures, "We must carefully consider which direction to take before taking the first step." His comments are seen as a response to recent calls from the party's Innovation Committee for personnel reforms and official apologies.
At the National Assembly on the same day, Jang hosted a forum titled "Listening to 2340 Young People: Is There a New Path for the People Power Party?" He stated, "Without a precise diagnosis of what went wrong and what needs to be removed, innovation is impossible," reiterating his position.
On the 14th, at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, during the plenary meeting of the Special Committee on Personnel Hearings held to approve the agenda for the confirmation hearing of Kim Sanghwan, nominee for Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Jang Donghyuk, the floor manager of the People Power Party, is speaking. Jang further emphasized, "The more major the surgery required, the more we must first assess whether we have the physical strength and health to endure it before proceeding. Surgery should only be performed after regaining strength."
He also remarked, "A sacrifice fly only has meaning when there is a runner on third base," stressing, "The People Power Party must seriously consider how to innovate and what should come first." He continued, "A political party is a group of people who move together toward a common direction. It is time to reflect on whether the People Power Party has truly demonstrated camaraderie and fought the good fight together."
Jang argued, "If a party lacks clear values, it has no reason to exist. The existence of various parties is justified by the different values they pursue and the different visions they have for shaping the country."
Present at the forum were Jeon Hangil, a former Korean history instructor known for defending former President Yoon Suk-yeol and promoting 'election fraud conspiracy theories,' and Lee Youngpung, a conservative YouTuber and former journalist.
Jeon stated, "The People Power Party bears responsibility for failing to prevent the impeachment of former President Yoon. The current approval rating is 19%, meaning that nearly 90% of the public has abandoned the People Power Party, and this is a situation the party brought upon itself."
He continued, "Innovation Committee Chairperson Yoon Heesook has again called for an apology and proposed including a clause in the party constitution and regulations to sever ties with former President Yoon, but that does not constitute innovation." He added, "The next day, Jang said, 'How long are we going to keep apologizing? The Democratic Party made a four-time convict president and is trying to avoid trial through illegal means, so why are we attacking each other?' and the 'Jang Donghyuk syndrome' emerged."
Jeon also insisted that election fraud is a topic many citizens sympathize with and argued that it should not be avoided in discussions. He claimed, "Only in our country is talk of election fraud dismissed as conspiracy theory. During the early presidential election, even if not Kim Moonsoo, but Admiral Yi Sunshin or King Sejong had run, they would have lost. Election fraud is carried out according to a predetermined script."
In response to reporters asking whether the election fraud conspiracy theory is not far removed from the party's innovation efforts, Jang replied, "Today's gathering is not just for those who want to hear what I want to say or who share my views. I will do my best to incorporate these diverse voices into the framework of innovation I envision."
