On July 15, Hwaseong City signed a business agreement with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education at the Dongtan Branch Office for the establishment of the Gyeonggi Lifelong Education and Culture Center. Hwaseong Mayor Jung Myunggeun and Gyeonggi-do Superintendent of Education Lim Taehee attended the signing ceremony.
The newly planned center will be built on the Public Site 10-2 in Dongtan 2 New Town. The project will proceed with the city providing the land, while the Office of Education will be responsible for construction and operation.
The center is expected to be constructed as a complex with one basement level and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 10,144 square meters. The target completion date is 2029.
The center will be equipped with a plaza, cafe, library, exhibition hall, lecture rooms, and studios. It will serve as a multi-purpose cultural space where various lifelong learning and cultural experiences are available, such as digital-based media education, career exploration programs, and intergenerational reading culture activities.
Mayor Jung stated, "Our efforts to create a lifelong learning environment have finally come to fruition with this agreement," and added, "Starting with this lifelong learning facility that integrates education and culture, we will build an educational city where all generations can learn and grow together."
