Taesung Yang:
"A Historic Turning Point for Energy Transition and Balanced Regional Development"
Taesung Yang, Chairman of Shinan Offshore Wind Power Association (CEO of KCH Group K-Wind Power)
The Shinan Offshore Wind Power Association has expressed its full support for the "RE100 Industrial Complex Development Policy" announced at the Presidential Office on July 10.
On July 15, the association stated that this policy announcement marks a historic turning point for South Korea’s energy transition and balanced regional development.
The association explained that offshore wind power projects have faced difficulties due to a combination of complex regulations, including delays in permits and approvals, institutional uncertainty, local acceptance issues, and grid connection problems. The association assessed that the new RE100 industrial complex policy provides both clear institutional direction and a practical breakthrough.
Currently, the world’s largest offshore wind power complex is under development in Shinan County, positioning the region as a central hub for renewable energy in South Korea. The association emphasized that, based on abundant marine resources and a resident-participatory development model, it is simultaneously pursuing both "energy self-sufficiency" and "local income generation."
The association expressed confidence that the core elements of the government’s new policy?attracting RE100 demand companies, utilizing 100% local renewable energy, and creating an energy new town?will further empower Shinan County’s pioneering efforts. In particular, the association expressed hope that if this policy leads to tangible follow-up measures such as regulatory easing, securing grid access, and designating industrial sites, offshore wind power projects could emerge as a core industry driving the nation’s energy transition.
The residents of Shinan County have also expressed genuine appreciation that their efforts to promote clean energy and regional development are now being concretely reflected in government policy.
Taesung Yang, Chairman of the Shinan Offshore Wind Power Association (CEO of KCH Group K-Wind Power), stated, "Together with local residents, we will ensure that Shinan becomes a model case for South Korea’s RE100 industrial complex," adding, "Through a collaborative model involving the government, local authorities, and the private sector, we will do our utmost to make Shinan County a symbol of 'citizen-participatory energy transition.'"
He further emphasized, "We are grateful for the government’s decisive action, and together with the residents of Shinan County, we will continue to walk the path of South Korea’s energy transition and balanced regional development to the very end."
