Reborn as a Center for Hands-on National Defense Education
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province has reopened the Jangsasangryuk Operation Victory Memorial Hall, which honors the unsung heroes of the Korean War, following a major renovation that was completed on July 15, 2025.
The main change in this renovation was the complete replacement of outdated analog exhibition programs with immersive displays utilizing advanced media art. This transformation was designed to elevate the memorial hall beyond a simple commemorative facility, establishing it as a key destination for national defense history education and patriotic experiences.
Of particular note is the introduction of new interactive content, including a special exhibition hall, an immersive content hall, a memorial hall, and a digital experience hall. These additions allow visitors to vividly experience the circumstances faced by student soldiers who participated in the Jangsasang Landing Operation during the Korean War.
In addition, to enhance visitor convenience and improve the efficiency of exhibitions and tours, the circulation route has been reorganized. Auxiliary facilities such as rest areas, an observatory, and convenience facilities have also been expanded, transforming the memorial hall into a visitor-centered space.
The hall is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except on Mondays when it is closed. To commemorate the reopening, a special discount event is being held. For more details, visitors can refer to the official website of the Jangsasangryuk Operation Victory Memorial Hall.
Kim Kwangyeol, the county governor, stated, "The Jangsasangryuk Operation Victory Memorial Hall is a valuable educational venue that reminds us of the noble sacrifice of the patriotic spirits who gave their lives for the country. Through this renovation, the hall has been reborn as a space where people of all generations can easily and engagingly learn about the meaning of national defense. I hope many visitors will come, enjoy Yeongdeok's refreshing, pristine sea, and gain important historical lessons."
