'Rivals' Park Chandae and Jeong Chungrae Join Hands in a Display of Unity

Jeong Chungrae and Park Chandae, candidates for the Democratic Party leadership, and Hwang Myungseon, candidate for the Supreme Council member, participated in the pledge ceremony for fair election practice and pledged to accept the results of the election.

At the pledge ceremony for fair election practice for the Democratic Party leadership and Supreme Council member candidates held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on July 15, Jeong, Park, and Hwang promised to: ▲ prohibit acts that undermine fair elections such as spreading false information, distributing money or valuables, and negative campaigning; ▲ accept the results of the election; ▲ and ensure a united primary.

Although Jeong and Park have become rivals in the party leadership race, they showed a spirit of unity by shaking hands and smiling for photos together.

Kim Byunggi, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party, said in his greeting, "This party convention is an occasion to establish a new party leadership that will take the lead and dedicate themselves to the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration, a government of national sovereignty."

He added, "The Democratic Party convention is a melting pot of unity and victory. Through the convention, we have brought together the thoughts and hearts of five million party members as one, building a stronger Democratic Party poised for certain victory."

He continued, "In the Democratic Party convention, there are no losers or winners; every member is a winner, united under the name of the Democratic Party. I hope that through fair and constructive competition, we will once again achieve results that are worthy of the Democratic Party."

Kim Jungho, chairman of the Central Party Election Commission, also stated, "The newly elected Democratic Party leadership on August 2 will work with the Lee Jaemyung administration to restore people's livelihoods, open a sustainable future for Korea, and create a Korea that moves forward once again."
