Spent 14 Million Won in 3 Days
Indonesian Man in His Twenties
A foreign man in his twenties was apprehended by police after using a stolen credit card from Korea to go on a 2-night, 3-day overseas trip, during which he spent over 14 million won.
On July 14, Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju announced that they had arrested and referred a man in his twenties, identified as A, a national of Indonesia, on charges of fraud, theft, and violation of the Specialized Credit Finance Business Act. A is accused of breaking into a rental car parked in a hotel parking lot in Seogwipo, Jeju, at around 1 a.m. on June 15 and stealing a credit card, which he then used.
He drove the stolen rental car into downtown Jeju, where he used the stolen credit card to purchase an airline ticket to Gimpo Airport, another ticket to Fukuoka, Japan, and accommodations in downtown Fukuoka. Subsequently, on the afternoon of June 15, he traveled from Jeju International Airport to Gimpo Airport, and on June 17, he left Korea via Incheon International Airport.
Between June 17 and 19, during his 2-night, 3-day trip to Fukuoka, Japan, A spent over 14 million won in just two days, June 15 and 16, on airline tickets, accommodations, and other reservations for his trip to Japan, before the victim managed to freeze the card.
After returning to Korea via Incheon International Airport on the night of June 19, A stole a car parked nearby and attempted to drive away, but was apprehended by police. He had originally entered Korea in 2020 on a language training visa, studied Korean at a university in the metropolitan area, and, after being expelled from school, reportedly traveled in and out of Korea on a tourist visa.
