Discussion on Strategies for Becoming a Powerhouse in AI, Advanced Industries, and Renewable Energy
Exploring Growth Ladders and Win-Win Measures for SMEs
The Presidential National Policy Planning Committee met with major economic organizations to discuss future growth strategies for the Korean economy. On July 10, the Economic Division 2 of the National Policy Planning Committee held a roundtable with six economic organizations: the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Korean Industries, the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea Federation of SMEs, the Korea Employers Federation, and the Korea Federation of Mid-sized Enterprises. In his opening remarks, Planning Committee member Wi Seongon emphasized, "The government and the business community must work as one team," and stressed the need to build new growth engines centered on artificial intelligence (AI) and the energy industry.
This roundtable was organized to develop practical economic strategies in response to both domestic and international changes, such as the spread of protectionism, the AI technological revolution, and the climate crisis. The meeting was attended by key executives from each economic organization, as well as Planning Committee members Wi Seongon and Yoon Junbyung.
The major economic organizations proposed a variety of on-site issues to the Lee Jaemyung administration, including AI-based manufacturing advancement, creation of initial demand, regulatory innovation, expanded support for business restructuring, establishment of a renewable energy ecosystem, and diversification of export markets. In particular, the participants also discussed securing talent for regional SMEs, creating safe workplaces, global industrial cooperation, and customized support measures for each stage of corporate growth. Planning Committee member Yoon stated, "We will create an economy where SMEs and small business owners can grow together through technological innovation and global market leadership."
