This measure aims to resolve space constraints caused by construction within the base and to facilitate the weekly trainee visits that take place every Wednesday.
An official from Gapyeong County stated, "With the meeting place for trainees being moved from inside the base to Jaraseom, we expect about 700 to 800 visitors to visit Gapyeong's commercial district each week until the end of this year. On an annual basis, this means that approximately 30,000 to 40,000 people will visit local tourist attractions and restaurants."
Taking this relocation as an opportunity, Gapyeong County is installing a tourism promotion booth, an agricultural product sales stand, a beverage service station, and a smoking booth at the Jaraseom parking lot. The county is also strengthening administrative and logistical support by establishing a close cooperation system with the military unit. In addition, efforts are underway to connect the city tour bus service to the meeting site, offer discounts on local agricultural products, and provide accommodation discounts for military personnel.
In response, the county, together with the Small Business Association, is recruiting businesses to participate in a discount event targeting visitors, in order to revitalize the local economy. This recruitment, aimed at food, lodging, and tourism businesses, is intended to boost local consumption and minimize outflow to other regions. The county plans to actively provide visitors with promotional materials containing discount information.
Businesses wishing to participate in the discount event can submit an application via email to the Gapyeong County Small Business Association.
Governor Seo Taewon stated, "This relocation of the meeting place will serve as an important opportunity for mutual growth between the military unit and the local community. We will do our utmost to provide administrative support so that military personnel and their families experience warm hospitality in Gapyeong, and so that this can bring tangible benefits to the local economy."
