"Ongoing Consultations with Relevant Ministries... Doing Our Best to Find Solutions to Key Issues"

Park Jiwon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Haenam, Wando, and Jindo, announced on the 14th, "I am providing an interim report on various requests raised by residents of Haenam, Wando, and Jindo." He conducted a mid-term review of the progress on major civil complaints submitted by local residents and made the results public.

Park explained that, in response to requests from residents of Songji Ttangkkeut Village, an on-site inspection regarding the dredging of the Ttangkkeut Port quay and the installation of towing facilities for vessels was conducted on July 9. The inspection involved Jeollanam-do Province, Haenam County, and local residents. Park stated, "Jeollanam-do Province has agreed to continue discussions on ways to incorporate residents' demands within the safety parameters of the quay structures."

Park also addressed the request received in February from hijiki seaweed aquaculture farms in Jindo for the approval of a seaweed activator (organic acid). He stated that the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries completed an on-site inspection on June 20, and the relevant departments are currently reviewing detailed measures to allow the use of the seaweed activator. He added, "If the related measures are implemented, hijiki aquaculture farms in Wando will also benefit," and emphasized, "I will continue to ensure that the necessary institutional improvements are made as soon as possible."

He reported that, regarding the request from the Wando Association of Bereaved Families of Fallen Soldiers on July 5 to increase veterans' allowances and expand job opportunities for the elderly, a consultation was held on July 9 with relevant departments of Jeollanam-do Province and Wando County, as well as Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly member Lee Cheol. Park stated, "This matter is expected to lead to practical support through amendments to relevant ordinances and securing of budgets."

Park also mentioned the request from the Federation of Fishermen's Associations of Wando and Haenam for the approval of auxiliary boats for anchovy coastal purse seine fishing. He explained, "Upon review, it was confirmed that an ordinance proposed by Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly member Shin Uijun was enacted on July 26 last year," and added, "If further needs arise in the future, we will continue to consult with the relevant ministries."

He further stated, "We have decided to actively review the passage of the Coastal and Offshore Fisheries Development Act, proposed by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, in response to the request from the Federation of Fishermen's Associations," and added, "We are doing our utmost to address the requests of local residents."
