Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as an excellent institution for fine dust reduction for the fourth consecutive year.
On July 14, Bucheon City announced that it was selected as an excellent institution for the fourth consecutive year in the "2025 Fine Dust Reduction Excellent City and County Evaluation" conducted by Gyeonggi Province.
For this evaluation, the 31 cities and counties in the province were divided into three groups according to population size. The final results were determined by combining a self-assessment (70%) based on 22 indicators across three main areas, including the management of fine dust sources, with an expert evaluation of excellent and special policies (30%).
Bucheon City received high marks for its proactive administration to reduce fine dust emissions, including expanding public electric vehicle charging facilities, inspecting emissions from vehicles in operation, and operating a reward system for reporting vehicles emitting black smoke. Compared to 2019, the city achieved a 37.5% reduction in the annual average concentration of ultrafine dust, lowering it from 32㎍/㎥ to 20㎍/㎥ last year.
In particular, during the sixth seasonal management period for high fine dust concentration (from December last year to March this year), the city implemented strengthened air pollution reduction policies in various sectors such as the public sector, transportation, and daily life, recording 52 days with "good" air quality?the highest ever achieved.
A Bucheon City official stated, "This selection as an excellent institution is the result of continuous efforts by multiple departments working together to improve air quality," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create a pleasant air environment that citizens can feel, including strengthening the management of emissions from vehicles in operation."
