Jinju City Makes All-Out Efforts to Ensure Safe and Clean Tap Water Supply During Summer

Strengthening Water Quality Management in Summer
Putting Citizen Safety First

This year, due to a rise in water temperature in Jinyang Lake, algae have proliferated more rapidly than in previous years, leading to the issuance of an "Alert" level algae warning on June 20.

With the recent ongoing heatwave, there is a high likelihood that the algae warning will be raised to the "Attention" level. At the same time, large amounts of nutrients and turbidity-causing substances are flowing in from the upper reaches of Jinyang Lake, causing rapid changes in the quality of the water source.

In response, Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province has activated a water quality management task force and is conducting water quality inspections of faucets by supply district, making every effort to ensure the safe and clean supply of high-quality tap water during the hot summer months.

Jinju City Makes All-Out Efforts to Ensure Safe and Clean Tap Water Supply During Summer Inspection of Faucets in Jinju City.

To ensure the supply of safe and clean high-quality tap water during the summer, the city has activated a summer water quality management task force and has begun special management of the upper watershed of Jinyang Lake, raw water quality inspections of Jinyang Lake, and process management at water purification facilities.

Additionally, in order to ensure the safety of tap water, the city has strengthened thorough water quality testing and monitoring, rigorously monitoring water quality at every stage from the water source to purification plants, reservoirs, and household faucets. The main inspection items include microorganisms, heavy metals, organic compounds, and other harmful substances. All test results are managed in accordance with relevant laws and standards.

Water quality inspection results conducted up to the first half of this year have all met drinking water quality standards, and the information is transparently disclosed to citizens through the Jinju City Hall website, allowing anyone to easily check information about tap water quality.

Furthermore, patrols of the water system for monitoring the raw water quality of Jinyang Lake have been strengthened to at least once a week, and barriers to block algae inflow have been installed to fundamentally prevent algae from entering. The city is also working closely with the Namgang Dam Management Division of Korea Water Resources Corporation to prevent damage caused by algae outbreaks.

A city official stated, "We are further strengthening process management of tap water in preparation for algae outbreaks during the summer, and we will do our utmost to supply citizens with high-quality tap water through comprehensive and meticulous water quality inspections from the water source to household faucets."
