Smak Completes Acquisition of Sejong Telecom's 5G Specialized Network Business

Smak, a company specializing in machine tool and robotics automation solutions, announced on July 14 that it has acquired the 5G specialized network (Eum 5G) business previously operated by Sejong Telecom and received final approval from the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Smak Completes Acquisition of Sejong Telecom's 5G Specialized Network Business

Smak completed the allocation of 5G specialized network frequencies and began operating related services on December 31, 2024. The company signed a business transfer agreement with Sejong Telecom on May 27, 2025, and has since been preparing for the acquisition. This contract is a strategic move to expand its industry-specific B2B telecommunications business and is expected to provide an opportunity to combine Smak's manufacturing-based telecommunications infrastructure with its ICT capabilities. Sejong Telecom, on the other hand, has decided to terminate this business and reorganize its business portfolio as part of its selection and concentration strategy.

Through this contract, Smak has secured a foundation to provide customized 5G solutions to various industrial sites, including smart shipbuilding (HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, HD Hyundai Mipo), smart construction (Kolon Global), smart campus (Sungkyunkwan University), smart factory (TLB), and local governments (Gimcheon City). In particular, the company expects to strengthen its competitiveness in the field of converged telecommunications services that combine machine tools and smart manufacturing technologies.

A Smak representative stated, "This business acquisition is also aligned with the government's digital transformation policy," adding, "We will leverage our technological capabilities and infrastructure operation experience to stably operate the 5G specialized network business and foster it as a future growth engine."

With this entry into the 5G specialized network sector, Smak plans to further enhance its ICT and manufacturing convergence capabilities and lead the digital transformation across the industry.
