Mona Yongpyong (CEO Lim Hakwoon) announced on July 14 that it is gaining popularity as a "summer resort free from tropical nights," thanks to its cool climate even in midsummer and its distinctive leisure programs.
Located on the slopes of Balwangsan Mountain at an altitude of 1,458 meters, Mona Yongpyong enjoys average midsummer temperatures that are 7 to 8°C lower than those of Seoul, allowing guests to enjoy comfortable accommodations without tropical nights, unlike in urban areas. According to statistics from the Korea Meteorological Administration, the average temperatures in Daegwallyeong for July and August are approximately 20°C and 18.5°C, respectively, which are significantly lower than Seoul’s averages (25°C in July, 26°C in August). This means visitors can enjoy cool breezes and relaxing nights even at midnight.
Building on this climatic advantage, Mona Yongpyong has continuously enhanced its summer travel offerings by providing a variety of activities such as golf, water park, highland trekking, and pool parties. In particular, Mona Yongpyong’s unique wellness programs?such as meditation, forest healing, and yoga in the refreshing highland forest?have become a special experience that recharges both body and mind, gaining popularity among a wide range of age groups, including the MZ generation.
Mona Yongpyong has moved away from its previous reliance on winter ski-centered revenue and has achieved remarkable growth in its spring, summer, and autumn seasons, establishing itself as an "All Seasons Resort." In fact, its operating revenue for the third quarter (summer) last year reached 36 billion KRW, which is more than four times higher than in 2002 (8.7 billion KRW), and about 34% higher than in 2017 (26.9 billion KRW), significantly reducing seasonal revenue fluctuations. The strategy of building a comprehensive leisure and resort platform across all four seasons has become a key driver for sustainable growth, moving beyond the limitations of a seasonal resort.
A Mona Yongpyong representative stated, "Our greatest competitive edge lies in offering a refreshing climate where guests can sleep comfortably without air conditioning even in midsummer, combined with seasonal activities and forest-based wellness programs that provide a differentiated experience. This year, we are further expanding our customer base by strengthening trendy programs such as pool parties and the Balwangsan Festival targeting the 2030 generation through new summer season content planning. Through these efforts, we aim to further boost summer sales and profitability, solidify our position as Korea's leading all-season resort, and continue to build a stable and sustainable growth strategy based on balanced performance throughout the year."
Starting with a pool party on July 26 at the water park targeting the 2030 generation, Mona Yongpyong will offer a variety of summer programs throughout August that families can enjoy together in the cool climate. The outdoor "Summer Cool Stage" will feature performances by popular artists such as Hyolyn, KCM, and Yoon Dohyun Band, as well as trot concerts and other diverse shows. Healing walks along the Balwangsan Millennium Yew Forest Trail, wellness experiences such as drone and astronomy classes, yoga and meditation, as well as flea markets and food trucks, will provide a wide range of entertainment. Through these diverse programs, Mona Yongpyong aims to simultaneously boost summer season sales and customer satisfaction, further strengthening its competitiveness as an all-season leisure and resort complex.
