Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul is significantly expanding its “National Qualification Exam Fee Support Program” to strengthen the employment and entrepreneurship capabilities of middle-aged and senior residents.

Reflecting the growing willingness to work and the increasing demand for qualification exams among seniors in an aging society, the district has broadened the eligibility for support from the previous age group of 40 to 64 to now include all residents aged 65 and older.

The range of qualifying exams for support has also been greatly expanded. In addition to existing national technical and professional qualification exams, a total of 905 types of exams are now eligible, including nationally accredited private certifications, language proficiency tests, and the Korean History Proficiency Test. However, automobile driver’s license exams are excluded.

Eligible applicants are unemployed or unestablished individuals aged 40 or older who have resided in Yeongdeungpo District for at least one month as of the application date. The program covers 90% of the exam fee, up to a maximum of 100,000 KRW per person. Any exam taken after January 1 of this year is eligible for support, with no limit on the number of applications.

Applications can be easily submitted via the “Welfare” section on the district’s website or by scanning the QR code on promotional posters. For more details, applicants can contact the Job and Economy Division. The application deadline is December 10 of this year, but the program may close earlier if the budget is exhausted.

Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, “We hope this program provides practical help to residents seeking reemployment or planning a second chapter in life,” adding, “We will continue to support residents who wish to acquire new skills and qualifications regardless of age, so they can take on new challenges without financial burden.”
