Yangsan City Holds Low Birthrate Awareness Training for Public Officials

Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province held the "2025 Public Officials Low Birthrate Awareness Improvement Training" to mark World Population Day (July 11 each year). The training aimed to enhance public officials' awareness of low birthrate issues, such as declining birthrates and an aging society, and to strengthen their capacity to respond to these challenges.

This training took place at the Small Theater of the Culture and Arts Center, with over 100 Yangsan City public officials in attendance. A professional instructor from the Gyeongnam Branch of the Planned Population Federation of Korea was invited to lead the session. The training focused on helping participants recognize the impact of youth population outflow and low birthrate trends on the local community as a whole. It also addressed the need for public officials to shift their perspectives and clarified their policy roles in responding to these demographic challenges.

Prior to this event, the city has continuously provided "Visiting Low Birthrate Awareness Improvement Education" for citizens and students. In the second half of the year, Yangsan City plans to actively promote a variety of initiatives to foster social consensus on low birthrate issues. These include hosting a "Low Birthrate Awareness Improvement Contest" and running birth encouragement campaigns, with the goal of raising public awareness about the crisis of a population cliff caused by low birthrates and a rapidly aging society. The city also aims to help citizens form rational values regarding marriage, childbirth, and family.

A Yangsan City official stated, "The low birthrate issue is not simply a matter of birthrate statistics, but an important indicator that reflects the overall structure and values of our society." The official added, "We will continue to incorporate the low birthrate perspective across various fields and work together with citizens to build a sustainable Yangsan."
