The special investigation team led by Special Prosecutor Myung Hyun Lee, which is investigating allegations of a "rescue lobbying" effort involving former Marine 1st Division Commander Lim Sungkeun in connection with the Chae Sangbyeong case, has conducted a search and seizure at the home of Song Hojong, a member of the "Meotjin Haebyeong" group chat.
Special Prosecutor Myung Hyun Lee is expressing his thoughts after the plaque ceremony at the special prosecutor's office set up in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 2nd.
According to legal sources on the 13th, investigators from the special prosecutor's team searched Song's residence for about three hours the previous afternoon. It is reported that the investigators secured Song's mobile phone and computer, among other items. Song was reportedly listed as a reference in the search and seizure warrant.
Song, a former member of the Presidential Security Service, is known to be one of the members of the "Meotjin Haebyeong" group chat, which has been identified as a channel for the alleged rescue lobbying for former Commander Lim. Song is also reported to be personally acquainted with Lim.
The rescue lobbying allegations center on suspicions that Lee Jongho, a former CEO of Black Pearl Invest and a close associate of First Lady Kim Keonhee, attempted to exert influence through Kim by collaborating with members of the "Meotjin Haebyeong" group chat to prevent disciplinary action against former Commander Lim, who was the unit commander of Chae Sangbyeong. The special prosecutor's team had previously conducted searches and seizures at Lee's home and vehicle.
