Recently, as the Chinese character doll 'Labubu' (LABUBU) has gained worldwide popularity, the sale of counterfeit products has become rampant. Singer Lee Youngji has also reported being a victim of counterfeits, and her story has become a hot topic after being reported in Taiwanese news.
On July 10, Lee Youngji shared a video clip from Taiwanese broadcaster TVBS News on her social media, along with the caption, "It made the news that I bought a fake Labubu. This is real. And it's not even Korean news."

The video showed Lee Youngji attempting to win a 'Labubu' doll from a claw machine. She expressed her excitement, saying, "I don't know if it's fake or real, but I really want the secret one." After getting the doll she wanted, she said joyfully, "This is genuine, right? I got the secret one, right?" However, the doll turned out to be an illegal copy. Lee Youngji expressed her disappointment, saying, "My Labubu is fake. It was a counterfeit," and added, "It doesn't have a keychain, and there's no card. Everyone, don't be fooled and buy the genuine ones. Don't sell fakes."
Wonhee, a member of the girl group ILLIT, also recently reported falling victim to a Labubu counterfeit scam. Last month, after discovering that the 'Labubu' she purchased was a fake, she lamented, "I got scammed. This really isn't right. It's so ridiculous," and added, "I actually saw it before buying. The box looked real," drawing sympathy from fans.
Labubu is a character doll from the Chinese toy company Pop Mart, known for its fluffy fur, rabbit-like upright ears, nine sharp teeth, and mischievous expression. These dolls are sold in a random box format through Pop Mart. Since you don't know which doll you have purchased until you open the box, collectors must keep buying to get the one they want. Thanks to its unique appearance and rarity, Labubu has sparked an explosive collecting craze worldwide.
It is known that genuine Labubu dolls come with a QR code, an authenticity card, and a keychain. Consumers are sharing tips for distinguishing genuine products, such as checking whether the packaging box and product label are clearly printed, and whether scanning the authenticity and anti-counterfeit QR code leads to the official Pop Mart website.
