The Chungnam Provincial Office of Education signed an implementation agreement on July 11 for the construction of a school complex facility tentatively named the "Chungnam Sports and Culture Complex Center."
The agreement ceremony was attended by Superintendent Kim Ji-cheol, Acting Mayor of Cheonan Kim Seok-pil, Cheonan Office of Education Director Lee Byung-do, and Cheonan Jeil High School Principal Hwang Myeong-ju, who signed the agreement and pledged to cooperate on the project. The school complex facility will be built on the site of Cheonan Jeil High School, with a total project cost of 48.9 billion won. The provincial office of education will contribute 38.9 billion won, and the city will provide 10 billion won, aiming for the center to open in July 2028. The facility will be constructed with one basement level, three above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 6,417.76 square meters. It is planned as a multi-purpose space equipped with an indoor gymnasium, group exercise room (GX room), library, small auditorium, multipurpose room, and various other amenities.
A park with an area of 13,045 square meters will also be created around the complex center, and the facility will be operated as an open sports and culture complex space accessible to both students and local residents. The agreement specifies the ownership and management responsibilities, dividing roles and duties to establish an effective system of cooperation. According to the agreement, the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education will retain ownership of the facility; the Cheonan Office of Education will manage and operate the indoor complex facility; and Cheonan City will operate and manage the park.
Kim Ji-cheol, Superintendent of the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education, said, "We will do our best to cooperate organically so that this can be established and utilized as a model complex cultural space that satisfies both students and local residents."
