Park asks Yoon to replace Lee Jaemyung, who became President
Jung appoints Jeong Sehyun, who served under progressive administrations
Yoon Yeojoon, former Minister of Environment, and Jeong Sehyun, former Minister of Unification, have been appointed as the fundraising committee chairs for Park Chan-dae and Jung Chungrae, respectively, who are running in the Democratic Party’s national convention for party leader.
On July 11, Park Chan-dae’s office announced in a press release, “A fundraising account has been opened, and former Minister Yoon will take over as the fundraising committee chair, replacing the previous chair, Lee Jaemyung.” Lee Jaemyung, who is now President, had served as Park’s fundraising committee chair since 2022, and it appears that a new chair was sought following the June 3 presidential election.
Park stated, “While there are many people who have worked with President Lee, I asked former Minister Yoon to take on the role of fundraising committee chair as a representative figure to replace Lee Jaemyung, who has become President, and I am grateful that he willingly accepted.”
Former Minister Yoon served as the chief executive election campaign committee chair for the Democratic Party during the last presidential election.
On the same day, Jung Chungrae also appointed former Minister Jeong as his fundraising committee chair and began fundraising activities.
Former Minister Jeong has worked in the field of inter-Korean relations since 1977 and served as Minister of Unification under the Kim Daejung and Roh Moo-hyun administrations. During the Moon Jaein administration, he served as Executive Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council, a ministerial-level position, contributing to the development of inter-Korean relations.
Jung Chungrae expressed his determination, stating, “Together with former Minister Jeong Sehyun, who has dedicated his life to upholding the spirit and values of the Democratic Party, I will work to build a stronger Democratic Party.”
