The Korea Forest Service announced that it will begin operating the National Timber Collection Yard starting July 11.
The collection yard is a domestic timber distribution facility being piloted for the first time by the Dongbu Regional Forest Service (Pyeongchang National Forest Management Office). Here, logs harvested from national forests are sorted and supplied according to demand by purpose?such as for construction or furniture?reflecting the opinions of both the timber industry and individual consumers.

Until now, most domestic logs were not sorted by purpose, forcing consumers to purchase logs they did not need.
The collection yard addresses this issue by publicly auctioning logs that have been sorted by purpose. The volume of logs to be auctioned is 1,700 cubic meters of larch, which is enough to build 68 wooden houses, each with a floor area of 100 square meters (approximately 30 pyeong).
Anyone interested in timber can participate in the public auction. More detailed information can be found on the Timber Information Service website and Onbid.
Park Eunsik, Director General of Forest Industry Policy, stated, "In order to achieve the domestic timber (HWP, timber and wood products grown, managed, and harvested in Korea) carbon storage target of 1.5 million tons of CO2 included in the 2030 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Goals, it is urgent to expand the use of domestic timber." He added, "We will actively develop and implement policies to further promote the use of domestic timber."
