Samsung’s 120MW-Class Super AI Data Center
Accelerating South Korea’s Shift to Digital Sovereignty
Samsung is making a large-scale investment in a regional area to build South Korea's largest artificial intelligence (AI) data center.
This project goes beyond simply providing computational space; it is drawing attention as a digital sovereignty hub that will elevate South Korea’s AI technological capabilities, and as a definitive example of industrial landscape transformation.
The planned AI data center will be a super-large, 120MW-class supercomputing facility equipped with tens of thousands of GPUs. It will surpass the 100MW data center in Ulsan currently being pursued by SK and Amazon, making it the largest and most advanced facility in the country. The investment alone amounts to approximately 8 trillion won. The center will serve as a next-generation AI infrastructure, responding to demands for generative AI, cloud computing, and advanced deep learning.
◆ The cradle of large-scale AI models ... Samsung’s declaration of digital sovereignty
Through this data center, Samsung envisions implementing a high-level technology platform that goes beyond simple storage and processing functions. The center will support the development of large-scale AI language models, algorithm training, and AI semiconductor testing. As global AI competition intensifies, South Korea will secure a strategic base for both technological and data sovereignty.
In particular, by linking with various fields such as cloud-based industrial AI, digital twins, and digital healthcare, the center is expected to serve as the core axis of an industrial convergence ecosystem.
◆ National core investment aligned with government AI strategy ... Leap toward a digital hub
Samsung’s unprecedented large-scale investment is directly aligned with the national vision of an “AI 100 trillion won era.” Experts describe this project as “the definitive example of private-sector-led investment and a symbolic case that sets the direction for South Korea’s digital transformation.”
If a regional location is selected, the economic ripple effect will be significant. It is expected to revitalize the construction sector, create large-scale employment, and strengthen the AI, semiconductor, display, and defense industries in a multifaceted way through organic connections with nearby industrial complexes.
