On July 9, Gimpo City held a meeting with the MP (Master Planner) Committee and LH Corporation regarding the development of the Gimpo Hangang 2 Public Housing District, and officially delivered a proposal letter requesting the inclusion of Gimpo City's core strategies in the district plan.

The meeting was held at Aegibong Peace Ecological Park and was attended by key figures, including Byungsoo Kim, Mayor of Gimpo City, the MP chairman, MP committee members, and LH Corporation officials. During the meeting, in-depth discussions were held to incorporate urban planning elements that reflect the unique characteristics of Gimpo City.

The MP Committee is an advisory body composed of experts from various fields, established to formulate the overall district plan for the Gimpo Hangang 2 District, including land use planning.

Through this meeting, Gimpo City proposed several initiatives: commercialization measures for a special central complex planning district to revitalize the station area; expansion of central hub parks and the creation of various themed parks by region; an increase in the ratio of for-sale housing to provide diverse residential options; plans for the undergrounding of the Gyeyang-Ganghwa Expressway and the creation of parks above it; the establishment of a safe school commuting environment; and plans to activate the special education development district.

At the meeting, Mayor Byungsoo Kim emphasized, "Gimpo Hangang 2 Compact City is not merely a new town development, but a crucial turning point for transforming into a sustainable, self-sufficient city. As this project is a process of concretizing a future vision for Gimpo as a major regional hub in the northwestern metropolitan area, it is essential that citizen-centered plans are reflected to ensure transportation convenience that residents can truly feel, and to connect the natural asset of the Hangang River to citizens' lives so that they can enjoy cultural experiences."

Kim Hyunsoo, chairman of the MP Committee, proposed, "We need to establish a special planning district for an AI Innovation Cluster within the Gimpo Hangang 2 District to build 'Gimpo AI Platform City,' where AI platform-based residential complexes, ancillary facilities, and commercial spaces are harmoniously integrated." The chairman explained that future-oriented urban planning based on advanced technologies can create urban jobs and realize a forward-looking urban plan, highlighting the necessity of transitioning to a city structure based on advanced technologies.

Gimpo City has consistently participated in MP meetings, continuously requesting the inclusion of plans that integrate convenient transportation, jobs, housing, culture, welfare, and the natural environment of the Hangang River. These requests include the creation of special planning districts to revitalize the station area and strengthen self-sufficiency, the establishment of a central park, the undergrounding of National Route 48 and the Gyeyang-Ganghwa Expressway to create an uninterrupted city and parks above, the development of a green axis linked to the Hangang River, the establishment of a future-oriented smart mobility infrastructure, and the preparation of self-sufficiency facilities to create jobs.

Gimpo City plans to continue consultations with relevant agencies, starting with the delivery of this proposal letter.

Meanwhile, the Gimpo Hangang 2 Public Housing District is scheduled to be developed with 46,000 housing units across a 7.31 million square meter area covering Masan-dong, Unyang-dong, Janggi-dong, and Yangchon-eup in Gimpo. The district will incorporate a wide range of smart city technologies. In particular, the project aims to create a specialized city leading the era of mobility by utilizing geographical advantages such as proximity to airports (Gimpo and Incheon), urban railways (including the new Line 5), GTX, expressway interchanges, and the Hangang River. The plan includes the development of waterfront parks and the integration of future-oriented transportation systems such as autonomous vehicles and UAM (Urban Air Mobility). The city is on track to submit the district plan approval application by the end of this month.
