"Agreement on the Need for Prosecutorial Reform...
Direction Matters More Than Speed"
The People Power Party has proposed the establishment of a National Assembly Special Committee on Judicial Reform to discuss prosecutorial reform.
Song Eonseok, Emergency Response Committee Chairman and Floor Leader of the People Power Party, stated at the Floor Countermeasure Meeting held at the National Assembly on July 11, 2025, "The People Power Party fundamentally agrees on the necessity of prosecutorial reform," expressing this position.

Chairman Song said, "We believe that a reform of the prosecution system is needed, prioritizing the protection of the rights of ordinary citizens and crime victims above all else." He added, "In particular, we are considering alternatives to address the already-realized problems of investigation delays and the collapse of investigations caused by the complete deprivation of investigative authority."
However, he emphasized that the direction of prosecutorial reform is more important than its speed, highlighting the need for discussion. This concern arises from the belief that if the Democratic Party of Korea pushes ahead with the so-called 'four prosecutorial reform bills' (the abolition of the Prosecution Service, the establishment of a Public Prosecution Office, the creation of a Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, and the establishment of a National Investigation Committee) in a rush, it could lead to significant negative consequences.
Chairman Song criticized, "The prosecutorial dismantling pursued by the Lee Jaemyung administration is even more radical and hasty than the complete deprivation of investigative authority implemented by the Moon Jaein administration three years ago." He further stated, "The four prosecutorial reform bills being pushed by the Democratic Party are, in short, an attempt to turn the prosecution into a dictatorial weapon akin to the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Chinese Communist Party."
Chairman Song added, "If the Democratic Party becomes fixated on speed and pushes through unreasonable legislative changes, the resulting harm will ultimately fall entirely on ordinary citizens and the vulnerable." He proposed, "We suggest continuing responsible reform discussions with the opposition in the special committee."
