Yongin City to Improve Safety Facilities at Yongin Light Rail Transit Stations for Transportation-Vulnerable Individuals

Reducing Escalator Speed and Reinforcing Screen Doors

First, to prevent accidents involving electric wheelchairs, the city plans to install "guide shoe bar-type reinforcement devices" on the screen doors at all stations of the Yongin Light Rail Transit. This device is designed to prevent the guide shoe, which is installed at the bottom of the screen door, from being pushed out of place by impact.

Additionally, to prevent safety accidents involving mobility-vulnerable individuals such as seniors and children, the city will implement a pilot project at the heavily used Yongin Jungang Market Station to reduce the operating speed of the escalator from the current 30 meters per minute to 20 meters per minute.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "With this project to enhance safety facilities, citizens will be able to use the light rail transit in a safer environment," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create an urban environment that considers the needs of transportation-vulnerable individuals."
