Intensive Management for 8,700 Vulnerable Residents
All-out Response with Cooling Shelters, Disaster Assistants, and Drone Monitoring
On July 11, Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province announced that it is fully implementing its "Comprehensive Summer Heatwave Response Plan" to protect the lives and safety of residents amid the ongoing heatwave.
The county is mobilizing all administrative resources to focus on managing approximately 8,700 people who are particularly vulnerable to heatwaves, and is operating a protection system that covers everything from prevention to emergency response.
The county has formed a joint task force team consisting of the county office, public health center, and town and township offices. It is conducting thorough management of 353 cooling shelters and has deployed 969 disaster assistants to provide real-time protection activities for vulnerable groups.
The disaster assistants offer customized services for residents at risk from the heat, including regular check-in phone calls, health status checks, guidance to cooling shelters, and information on heatwave response guidelines.
Additionally, the county is working to eliminate information blind spots by operating an emergency disaster text messaging system and using drones to monitor and promote awareness in remote areas. This swift and precise response model is being recognized as a best practice both within and outside the region.
Furthermore, in areas with a high concentration of outdoor workers such as construction sites, rural areas, and industrial complexes, the county is actively implementing the "Heat Break" system whenever a heatwave advisory is issued. This policy is also mandatory for all county-commissioned construction projects to ensure the safety of on-site workers.
Kim Donggon, Cheongyang County Governor, stated, "Protecting the health and lives of our residents is the top priority for the county government in these ongoing heatwave conditions," and urged, "I ask all residents to follow heatwave response guidelines, such as drinking water frequently and refraining from outdoor activities during midday."
He added, "The county will do its utmost to prevent even a single casualty," and emphasized, "We will establish a safety net that residents can trust through proactive, field-oriented responses."
