GS25, the convenience store chain operated by GS Retail, announced on July 11 that it has launched two new plum wine products in collaboration with the global plum wine brand Choya, capitalizing on the mixology (Mix+Technology) trend of mixing alcoholic beverages with other drinks.
The newly released products are: ▲ Choya Golden Ume Fruits 50ml, and ▲ Choya Ice Maesil & Apple Sorbet (Maesil Sorbet).
'Choya Golden Ume Fruits' is a premium plum wine made only with plums, sugar, and distilled spirits, without any additives. It comes in a ready-to-drink (RTD) format with whole fresh plums inside a clear glass bottle. 'Choya Ice Maesil & Apple Sorbet' is an ice sorbet made by adding apple syrup to Choya plum concentrate. It pairs well when mixed with Choya Golden Ume Fruits.
The recommended way to enjoy these products is to pour Choya Golden Ume Fruits into a can of Choya Ice Maesil & Apple Sorbet, allowing it to soak in before consuming. This way, the plum wine can be enjoyed cold, smooth, and sweet, much like a smoothie.
The launch of these new products reflects the recent 'Iseul Cream' (Ice Cream + Alcohol) trend that is gaining popularity among younger generations. Inspired by the buzz on international social networking services (SNS) about combining Choya plum wine with ice cups, the companies co-developed an upgraded version of plum sorbet and released it together with the plum wine.
GS25 will offer an additional 800 won discount for customers who purchase both products together until the end of August.
Yoon Jiho, the liquor team MD at GS Retail, explained, "With the mixology trend, recipes that combine alcoholic beverages and ice cream are becoming increasingly popular, and through the launch of these products, we aim to quickly capture this trend."
