A Three-Week World Music Festival Every Saturday and Sunday Starting July 12
Experience Global Music Through Percussion Rhythms... All Seats Free
Songpa-gu, Seoul will host the “World Music Carnival: TAP TAP” every Saturday and Sunday from July 12 to July 27 at the Seokchon Lake Atelier (191 Seokchonhosu-ro).
To celebrate the summer, the district has prepared a special performance series that highlights the primal allure of percussion instruments. By featuring percussion instruments from various cultures, the event will combine music from around the world with powerful performances to create an immersive midsummer night experience.
This series will feature six percussion-focused teams that span both tradition and modernity, as well as local and global influences. The lineup is as follows: Tonic House (Percussion Ensemble, July 12), Kim Sangil Latin Quartet (Percussion Ensemble, July 13), Bibimbbit (Colombian Traditional Percussion, July 19), Hitchmossa (Brazilian Percussion Performance, July 20), Horei (Brazilian Traditional Percussion, July 26), and Earth Handpan (Handpan Music, July 27).
Tonic House, which will open the series on July 12, has collaborated with a belly dancer specifically for this event. The group promises a special performance that will stimulate all the senses, featuring vibrant belly dance routines set to the exhilarating rhythms of percussion instruments.
Following this, audiences can look forward to a series of unique performances, including the deep sounds of a four-member Latin music quartet, captivating vocals in Colombian folk music, Brazilian music performed exclusively with percussion instruments, and fusion music that incorporates ten different types of percussion instruments and performance art.
Earth Handpan, which will close the series on July 27, has prepared an interactive performance for the audience. Attendees will be invited to play unfamiliar instruments such as the handpan, ocean drum, and singing bowl together, sharing a profound musical connection.
Tickets can be reserved through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website. All seats are free, but to prevent no-shows, a reservation deposit of 5,000 won is required in advance and will be fully refunded after the performance. For more details, visit the “Songpa-gu Seokchon Lake Atelier” blog.
Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “A society that values art is a truly advanced society,” and encouraged, “This coming weekend, I hope you will enjoy a feast of world music at Seokchon Lake Atelier, where culture, art, and beautiful scenery come together.”
