This meeting was organized to assess the potential for utilizing the Arctic Route in response to global variables such as US-China strategic competition, climate change, and diversification of logistics routes, and to identify mid- to long-term policy tasks for related domestic industries.

Kim Minsu, head of the Arctic Route Support Team, emphasized, "The Arctic Route could become a new alternative for international logistics in the future," adding, "Only when industries and regions prepare together will effective strategies be possible."

The meeting was divided into industry and regional sessions.

In the industry session, the following topics were presented: ▲Railway infrastructure linkage strategy by Korea Railroad Research Institute (Researcher Park Jungjoon); ▲Shipbuilding industry response measures by Korea Research Institute of Ship and Ocean Engineering (Director Lee Hanseong); ▲LNG transportation scenarios by Korea Energy Economics Institute (Director Lee Sungkyu); and ▲Climate change response tasks by Korea Polar Research Institute (Director Jeong Jihoon).

In the regional session, the following strategies were shared: ▲Development strategy for Arctic Route hub ports centered on Busan Port (Director Jang Hayong, Busan Research Institute); ▲Utilization plan for the Gyeongnam shipbuilding equipment industry (Director Park Byungjoo, Gyeongnam Research Institute); and ▲Expansion strategy for port infrastructure in the East Sea region (Researcher Jeong Wonjo, Gyeongbuk Research Institute).

Participants agreed that "policy foundations such as designating hub ports, establishing a linkage system between industries and regions, and advancing prediction models are necessary," and emphasized the need to "promptly promote information-sharing platforms and pilot projects."

KMI President Cho Jeonghee stated, "The Arctic Route is not just a simple route, but a key axis for industrial competitiveness and balanced regional development," adding, "KMI will work to concretize policy foundations that enable industries and regions to collaborate."

Based on the results of this meeting, KMI plans to develop mid- to long-term strategies for linking with the Arctic Route and to propose relevant policies and implementation measures.
