On July 10, Theborn Korea, a food service company, announced that it has ceased operations at its Baekseok plant in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province, following controversy over violations of the Farmland Act.
Theborn Korea stated, "To ensure safe product manufacturing and quality control, we have transferred the production functions of the Baekseok plant to our Yesan plant and partner manufacturers, and we ended operations at the Baekseok plant at the end of June." The company added that employees who previously worked at the Baekseok plant have been reassigned to the Yesan plant and are currently working there.
Additionally, Theborn Korea emphasized that it is cooperating faithfully with the South Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency's investigation related to the Farmland Act. The company also highlighted its efforts to thoroughly discuss relevant laws with local governments and to comply with food-related regulations.
Previously, it was reported that the Baekseok plant, located in an agricultural promotion zone, produced doenjang products using imported raw materials, which led to allegations of violating the Farmland Act. At the time, Theborn Korea apologized, stating that it "had not fully understood the relevant laws."
