Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on July 10 that it will reopen the newly renovated 'Yongsan Observatory'?a site offering panoramic views of the pristine ecology and natural scenery of Suncheon Bay?starting July 11.

'Yongsan Observatory' has been transformed into an eco-friendly space that goes beyond simply appreciating the landscape. It is now dedicated to preserving the unpolluted natural ecology of Suncheon Bay and providing visitors with opportunities for healing within nature.

The renovated observatory is a two-story wooden structure designed to harmonize with the surrounding environment, with a building area of 124.88 square meters. The city also plans to gradually construct an approximately 908-meter-long sloped, barrier-free deck path leading to the observatory by 2026, to accommodate seniors, people with disabilities, families with infants, and other visitors with limited mobility.

From the observatory, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the S-shaped waterway, the expansive reed fields of Suncheon Bay, colonies of glasswort, sunsets, and the wintering grounds of the hooded crane.

Going forward, the city plans to operate a variety of ecological experience programs at this location, including ecological interpretation, birdwatching, and meditation. In addition, the city aims to develop the area as a hub for nature-based ecological healing tourism and ecological education, in connection with the Ramsar Trail, reed fields, and hooded crane habitats.

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu stated, "Yongsan Observatory is a symbolic space where people can directly experience the value of coexistence between humans and nature." He added, "We will develop it as a leading destination for stay-type ecological healing tourism, in connection with Suncheonman National Garden and the upcoming Suncheon Tidal Flat Healing Tourism Platform, to encourage stays of at least two days and one night."
