Dongshin University announced on July 10 that the Department of Physical Therapy and the Department of Emergency Medical Services operated an aquatic rehabilitation exercise and safety education program for people with disabilities in the local community.
This program was conducted as part of the "Visiting Learning Bureumi" course under this year's Lifelong Learning City for People with Disabilities initiative. More than 10 students from the Department of Physical Therapy and the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dongshin University supported aquatic rehabilitation exercises for more than 10 children with disabilities in Naju.
The students applied the Halliwick method, which is based on the principles of water buoyancy and human body rotation, focusing on improving trunk stability and restoring balance in children with disabilities through aquatic rehabilitation exercises. Students majoring in water rescue from the Department of Emergency Medical Services also participated, helping to ensure that the program was conducted in a systematic and safe environment, which was well received.
Kim Sehun, head of the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dongshin University, said, "Although there is a high demand for aquatic rehabilitation exercises among people with disabilities, it is often difficult to implement due to safety concerns. We will continue to strengthen students' expertise and contribute to society by providing various hands-on educational programs that meet the needs of the local community."
