A Different Charm in Every Season
If you drive for another 40 minutes from Yeongyang County Office, you will reach the entrance to the Birch Forest in Jukpa-ri, Subi-myeon, Yeongyang. Traveling by electric car along a clear-flowing valley, you will be greeted by a spectacular scene of densely packed trees with white trunks painted green, and a birch forest filled with the constant chirping of birds.
Unlike the all-white birch forest of winter, in summer the harmony of white trunks and lush greenery reaches its peak.
The Birch Forest in Yeongyang showcases a different charm in every season, to the extent that County Governor Oh Dochang named it a must-visit destination before you die during an interview.
The 30-centimeter saplings planted in 1993 across an area of about 30 hectares have grown untouched by human hands, forming today’s dense forest and earning its status as a “Premium National Forest.”
As this premium forest has recently become known to the public, tourists have started to visit. To improve convenience for visitors, the county has developed infrastructure such as access roads and parking lots, and operates eco-friendly electric vehicles to enhance accessibility to the forest.
The paths winding through the forest have gentle slopes, making them ideal for forest walks and relaxation. Whether with family, a partner, or alone, anyone can comfortably enjoy nature here.
Governor Oh Dochang stated, “The birch forest is a hidden gem among Yeongyang’s tourist attractions. Through projects tailored to local demand and agreements to revitalize the birch forest area, we are developing it into a leading forest recreation and tourism site in North Gyeongsang Province. I want to make this a forest that visitors will want to return to, and to share the inspiration that nature offers.”
