Operation of Special Water Play Countermeasure Period
Strengthened Deployment of Safety Personnel and Dedicated Management
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province conducted a safety management inspection on July 9, ahead of the peak vacation season, targeting inland water play areas within its jurisdiction, including the Naewonsa Valley, to prevent water-related accidents during the summer.
This inspection was organized in response to the rising demand for water activities among citizens as temperatures increase during the summer, with the aim of preventing accidents in local water play areas in advance. In particular, the inspection focused on the deployment status of safety personnel and the installation and operation of safety facilities.
Currently, Yangsan City has designated and manages three water play management areas and three danger zones. Accordingly, the city has deployed a total of 10 safety management personnel at these sites to enable prompt response in the event of incidents such as rescues or first aid. These safety personnel are stationed on-site not only on weekdays but also on weekends, patrolling the areas around valleys and streams and actively promoting compliance with safety rules among citizens.
To further strengthen water safety management this year, the city has designated the period from July 15 to August 17 as the "Special Water Play Countermeasure Period" and will commence full-scale operations. During this period, a dedicated management system will be implemented for each area, and emergency response teams will be on duty at all times, both on weekdays and weekends, to ensure a rapid response in case of emergencies.
In addition, continuous monitoring activities and improvements to safety facilities will be carried out so that citizens can enjoy water activities with peace of mind even during the heat.
Kim Shinho, Deputy Mayor, who participated in the on-site inspection, stated, "During the summer, when the heat continues, more citizens visit valleys and streams, which increases the possibility of water-related accidents. Even a moment of carelessness can lead to a major accident, so please ensure thorough monitoring and safety checks to prevent even a single accident from occurring."
He also emphasized, "We ask all citizens to always wear life jackets when engaging in water activities, and for children to use these areas safely under the supervision of guardians. Most accidents can be prevented simply by following basic safety rules."
An official from Yangsan City stated, "We will continue to prioritize the lives and safety of our citizens in our administration," and added, "We will also implement comprehensive safety measures not only for water play areas but also to prepare for natural disasters and emergencies that may occur during the summer."
