Qualcomm will supply a customized system-on-chip (SoC) for Samsung Electronics' new foldable phone.
On July 10, Qualcomm announced that it has equipped Samsung's latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold7, with the "Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy" mobile platform. This platform was first applied to the Galaxy S25 series.
The "Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy" features Qualcomm’s next-generation customized Orion central processing unit (CPU) and a Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU) dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) computation, delivering powerful on-device AI performance. This enables the device to optimize multimodal generative AI operations that process voice, context, and images directly on the device, providing users with a high-level Galaxy AI experience.
Kwon Ohyung, President of Qualcomm Asia-Pacific, stated, "This launch holds significant meaning for the strategic partnership between Qualcomm and Samsung," and added, "By integrating advanced AI, outstanding performance, and seamless connectivity into an ultra-slim foldable form factor, we will set a new standard for mobile innovation."
Song Ingang, Head of Technology Strategy Team at Samsung Electronics MX Division (Executive Vice President), said, "This is a symbolic example of the joint efforts between Qualcomm and Samsung," and emphasized, "The Galaxy Z Fold7 will achieve an even higher level of completeness and deliver the best mobile experience in on-device AI, camera, and connectivity."
