On July 8 (local time), Reuters reported that the Nanjing local police in China had arrested and detained a 38-year-old Chinese man, referred to as Mr. A, on July 6 on charges of distributing obscene materials. Mr. A is accused of dressing as a woman, luring men to his home to have sexual intercourse, filming the acts, and distributing the videos online.

Previously, posts related to the case spread rapidly on Chinese online platforms under the hashtag "Red Uncle." These posts claimed that a 60-year-old man known as "Red Uncle" in an eastern city of Nanjing had sexual intercourse with 1,691 men in his home, filmed the encounters, and distributed the videos online.

Subsequently, "Red Uncle" became a trending search term on the Chinese social networking service Weibo, and related posts reportedly garnered at least 200 million views.

In addition, photos of the faces of 100 men believed to have met with Mr. A were released online. Some internet users posted messages urging others to check whether their fianc? or husband appeared in the photos.

The police clarified that, contrary to what was reported online, Mr. A is 38 years old, not 60. They also stated that Mr. A did not have sexual intercourse with over 1,000 men. However, the police did not disclose the specific number.

Many internet users expressed concerns about sexually transmitted diseases in connection with this case. In response, a city health official stated, "Appropriate measures will be taken," and encouraged anyone worried about their health due to close contact to come in for testing at any time.

While same-sex intercourse is not illegal in China, filming and distributing sexual acts without the consent of the other party is punishable by law.
