All-Out Effort to Secure the 2026 National Budget
Focusing on Strategic Projects Such as Semiconductor and Defense Industry Clusters
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has launched an all-out effort to proactively respond to the 2026 national budget planning process and to elevate key regional issues to the level of central government policy agendas.
The city recently held a "Progress Report Meeting on Pending Issues and Nationally Funded Projects" in the city hall situation room, where each department reviewed the status of major municipal tasks and projects targeted for national funding.
This meeting went beyond simply securing budget allocations, focusing instead on developing region-specific strategies aligned with the central government’s policy direction. Discussions covered comprehensive response measures, ranging from basic urban infrastructure to large-scale projects at the level of the national industrial complex.
In particular, the meeting addressed fundamental administrative areas directly related to citizens’ daily lives, such as public safety, environmental maintenance, transportation systems, and road infrastructure improvement. It also covered major national projects expected to drive Gumi’s future growth, including the creation of a semiconductor-specialized complex, the establishment of a defense industry cluster, and strategies to attract next-generation advanced industries.
Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi City, emphasized, "The foundation of a city lies in the lives of its citizens, and Gumi’s future depends on industrial competitiveness. We will focus all administrative capabilities on ensuring that the various challenges facing our region are reflected in national policies."
He added, "During this period of industrial transformation, we will continue to develop meticulous strategies and persistent negotiations so that Gumi can once again rise as the heart of Korea’s manufacturing industry."
Through this meeting, Gumi City aims to proactively understand the 2026 national budget planning trends and to establish a response roadmap in line with the central ministries’ budget schedules. The city also plans to continue an all-out response to secure national funding by working closely with both ruling and opposition parties, as well as local members of the National Assembly.
