Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST, President Ki Cheol Lim) announced on July 9 that the research team led by Professor Ki Hong Park from the Department of Environmental and Energy Engineering has received the Grand Prize of the Kangho Ahn Award at the 2025 Annual Conference of the Korean Association for Particle and Aerosol Research.
The Kangho Ahn Award is presented to researchers who have made outstanding academic contributions in the field of particles and aerosols. It was established with funds donated by ART Plus Co., Ltd. to the Korean Association for Particle and Aerosol Research in honor of Professor Emeritus Kangho Ahn of Hanyang University.
The Korean Association for Particle and Aerosol Research selects the most outstanding paper published in its journal each year to receive the Kangho Ahn Award and is dedicated to discovering and encouraging creative and influential research achievements in the field of aerosols.
The paper awarded to Professor Ki Hong Park's research team developed a technology for real-time measurement of the elemental composition of carbonaceous aerosols. This research has been recognized for overcoming the limitations of conventional non-real-time analysis methods and reliance on expensive equipment, thereby advancing the level of domestic aerosol measurement technology.
By utilizing this technology, it is expected to be possible to rapidly analyze the sources of generation, emission pathways, and health impacts of various aerosols occurring indoors and outdoors, which will greatly contribute to air quality management and the establishment of environmental and health policies.
Professor Ki Hong Park stated, "With this award as an opportunity, I will continue to work with students and researchers to ensure that Korea's real-time aerosol composition analysis technology can reach a world-class level."
