The "2025 Korea Climate Environment Energy Expo," which presents a new vision for the transition to renewable energy and the response to the climate crisis, opened on July 9. The city of Gwangju held the opening ceremony at the Kim Daejung Convention Center on this day, marking the start of a three-day event.

The opening event was attended by Mayor Kang Gijeong, Vice Governor Myung Changhwan of South Jeolla Province, Kim Youngwoo, Director of the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office, Kwak Jaewook, Director of Operations at the Win-Win Growth Committee, and Han Sangwon, President of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others.

Prior to the opening ceremony, the city of Gwangju, Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, KEPCO KDN, and Gwangju Urban Corporation signed a business agreement to expand local renewable energy and vitalize the Energy Valley Industrial Complex. Through this agreement, these organizations plan to promote not only the expansion of renewable energy but also the creation of public demonstration complexes utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and information and communication technology (ICT) in areas such as the Energy Valley Industrial Complex.

This exhibition features more than 200 companies across 12 fields, including renewable energy, solar (thermal), ESS (energy storage systems), batteries, secondary batteries, smart grids, water environment, air environment, waste management, environmental new technologies, resource circulation, and ESG (environmental, social, and governance). These companies are showcasing renewable energy technologies and a variety of products for environmental protection.

In particular, the "Win-Win Growth Fair," a purchasing consultation event targeting large corporations and public institutions, brings together about 80 large companies and 150 small and medium-sized enterprises. Through business matching, case presentations, and policy briefings, the fair offers new market opportunities for SMEs.

The "KOTRA Export Consultation" supports participating companies in expanding their overseas business by inviting foreign buyers for one-on-one business meetings. In addition, a studio has been set up within the exhibition hall to provide participating companies with free one-stop services, including product photography and product registration on online export platforms.

During the exhibition period, a series of forums and seminars connecting policy and industry in the climate, environment, and energy sectors will be held, including briefings on renewable energy support policies and seminars on RE100 implementation strategies.

Another attraction of this exhibition is the "Net-Zero Market," a citizen-participatory event. Not only business and industry representatives but also ordinary citizens can take part in a variety of eco-friendly experience programs, such as viewing a wildlife photo exhibition, making zero-waste household goods, and creating natural handmade cosmetics.

Mayor Kang Gijeong stated, "It is significant that the Korea Climate Environment Energy Expo, a platform for discussions in the environment and energy sectors, is being held in Gwangju, which will become a treasure trove of future energy. Honam, including Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla, will become an industrial outpost based on abundant energy and will be reborn as a future city with many new jobs. Gwangju City will continue to make every effort to drive innovation and expand the ecosystem in the climate, environment, and energy sectors."
