Jeonnam Province Transitions to Routine Foot-and-Mouth Disease Quarantine System

Crisis Level Lowered to 'Attention'
All Movement Restrictions Lifted for Yeongam Farms

Jeonnam Province Transitions to Routine Foot-and-Mouth Disease Quarantine System Jeonnam Provincial Government Office View

Jeonnam Province announced that, as all movement restrictions related to foot-and-mouth disease have been lifted, it will lower the crisis level from "Caution" to "Attention" starting July 9 and transition to routine quarantine measures.

This decision was made because clinical and detailed inspections of the four farms, which had their movement restrictions extended for three weeks after additional natural infection antibodies were detected in the Yeongam Dobo quarantine area, found no abnormalities.

Natural infection antibodies (NSP) are antibodies produced about two weeks after an external virus infection, and testing for them is used to determine whether there has been a circulating viral infection.

Jeonnam Province lifted movement restrictions on all four quarantine areas as of June 15, with the Yeongam Dobo quarantine area being the last. However, for the four farms where additional natural infection antibodies were detected, movement restrictions were extended for three weeks until July 5, and quarantine measures such as disinfection were strengthened.

Lee Youngnam, Director of Animal Quarantine at Jeonnam Province, said, "I would like to thank livestock farmers, cities and counties, and related organizations for their active cooperation with quarantine measures to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, despite the difficult field conditions," and requested, "Please continue to follow quarantine rules such as thorough vaccination, restricting outsiders, and disinfecting farms."

In Jeonnam, since the first case of foot-and-mouth disease on March 13, there have been a total of 19 cases reported by April 13: 13 cases (cattle) in Yeongam and 6 cases in Muan (1 cattle, 5 pigs).
