The city of Gwangju will launch the creation of a public demonstration complex for energy, utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and information and communication technology (ICT), focusing on expanding renewable energy and the Energy Valley industrial complex.

On July 9, at the Kim Daejung Convention Center, the city of Gwangju signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority (headed by Sun Seokgi), KEPCO KDN Co., Ltd. (President Park Sanghyeong), and Gwangju Urban Corporation (President Kim Seungnam) for the expansion of renewable energy in the Gwangju area and the revitalization of the Energy Valley industrial complex.

This agreement was established to create a public demonstration complex that incorporates AI and ICT in order to expand the supply of renewable energy and revitalize the energy industry, and to share the resulting benefits with citizens through initiatives such as the Gwangju-style citizen fund.

The agreement includes: ▲ launching renewable energy generation projects and creating a Gwangju-style citizen fund using public idle land; ▲ supporting the revitalization of the industrial complex through the creation of a public demonstration complex utilizing AI and ICT technologies; and ▲ constructing a new public office building for the KEPCO KDN Gwangju-Jeolla-Jeju Regional Headquarters within the Energy Valley industrial complex, along with administrative support for permits and approvals.

Through this agreement, KEPCO KDN plans to invest 44.9 billion won to build a new six-story public office building for the Gwangju-Jeolla-Jeju Regional Headquarters, with a land area of 3,150 square meters and a total floor area of approximately 6,000 square meters, within the Energy Valley industrial complex in Nam-gu.

In addition, together with Gwangju Urban Corporation, the company will create a "Gwangju-style citizen fund" as a business model that shares profits with citizens, and will actively cooperate in the public demonstration complex project that incorporates AI and ICT.

Mayor Kang Kijeong emphasized, "This agreement will serve as the starting point for the Gwangju-style model that realizes the Yoon Sukyeol administration's policy of expanding renewable energy and sharing benefits. Environmental and energy issues cannot survive without sustainability. Through close cooperation with participating organizations, we will lead the way toward a sustainable energy future."
