Gwangju City is accelerating its efforts to nurture a total of 810,000 talents by 2030 in line with the talent development policy of the National Planning Committee under the Lee Jaemyung administration. As a leading AI city, Gwangju aims to cultivate talents in AI and digital fields, semiconductors, cultural content, and other future strategic industries connected to the region.

According to the city on July 9, Gwangju is preparing to become a cradle for nurturing talents in future strategic industries, centering on the recently presented "2030 Talent Development Strategy" roadmap in addition to its existing talent development policies.

On June 11, the city held the "2030 Gwangju Talent Development Strategy Report Meeting" at the Gwangju Content Cube (GCC) VX Studio, together with 87 organizations and institutions from the education sector, economic groups, industries, and public agencies.

At the report meeting, under the vision of "Nurturing LIGHT Talents to Brighten Gwangju's Future," the city presented a roadmap to nurture 350,000 talents in AI, digital, semiconductor, and cultural content industry technologies, as well as 460,000 talents to expand the foundation for a future education city, aiming for a total of 810,000 talents by 2030. The city also announced plans to strengthen the industry-academia-research-government governance system to ensure the success of the "2030 Talent Development Strategy."

At the "AX Future Strategic Industry Promotion Meeting" held at Chonnam National University on July 6, participants discussed industry-academia cooperation measures and joint response strategies. The meeting covered ways to connect core industries such as AX demonstration, future mobility, secondary batteries, and medical healthcare with university policy initiatives.

In particular, the city is implementing practical talent development policies to respond to future industries. Since 2020, Gwangju has operated the AI Academy, producing 1,221 AI talents by last year to nurture practical AI professionals. This year, the sixth cohort of 330 trainees was selected and is currently undergoing seven months of AI expert training.

Additionally, to foster skilled personnel in immersive content technology and professionals ready for immediate field deployment, the city has operated the GCC Academy since last year. In November last year, the first cohort of 132 trainees graduated, and this year, 140 trainees were selected for the second cohort and are currently in training.

There have been positive outcomes, with graduates of the AI Academy and GCC Academy steadily finding employment at leading companies in the AI and semiconductor sectors.

Kim Kisuk, Director of the Education and Youth Bureau, stated, "Through systematic talent development policies, we have continuously produced professionals with practical skills in future strategic industries such as AI and content. Moving forward, we will leverage our strengths as a leading AI city to further advance field-oriented, customized education and the industry-academia-research-government cooperation model, dedicating ourselves to nurturing core talents who will lead local industries."
