The Palm Beach Post, a local newspaper in Florida, reported on July 8 (local time) that a golfer named Marty Lerner scored hole-in-ones on both the 2nd hole (par 3, 112 yards) and the 9th hole (par 3, 110 yards) at Park Ridge Golf Course in Wellington, Florida, on July 6. The odds of making a hole-in-one in a single round are known to be 1 in 12,500. The odds of making two hole-in-ones in one round jump dramatically to 1 in 67 million.
Lerner is an ordinary retired man who plays golf about twice a week. He said his usual goal is to shoot under 100, and joked, "When I stepped up to the tee box on the 2nd hole with my 8-iron, I had no intention of getting angry at the tee marker like Brooks Koepka if I didn't make a hole-in-one." This was a joke referencing a recent incident at a LIV Golf tournament where Koepka smashed a marker with his club after a poor tee shot.
Thanks to the two hole-in-ones, Lerner shot 44 on the front nine, which was his best score in recent memory. Although he was hoping to break 100, he shot 56 on the back nine, finishing with exactly 100 strokes.
