The Only County-Level Group Award Winner: Geochang
Proving the Artistic Quality and Excellence of Geochang Crafts
Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do announced on July 9 that it received the group encouragement award at the 55th Gyeongsangnam-do Craft Competition.
The Gyeongsangnam-do Craft Competition, hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, is an event designed to strengthen the competitiveness of the local craft industry and help develop new markets by discovering and awarding outstanding craftworks.
This year, a total of 277 works were submitted by 18 cities and counties in the province. In Geochang-gun, nine artists participated, and five of them won individual awards. The awards included: one silver prize, one bronze prize, one encouragement award, one special selection, and one honorable mention.
Notably, Geochang-gun was the only county-level local government to receive a group award, which highlighted the high artistic quality and craftsmanship of the region's crafts on a broader stage.
The four artists from Geochang-gun who received special selection or higher awards will be granted several benefits, including the right to participate in the Korea Craft Competition, priority exhibition at the sales gallery during the competition, additional points when applying for craft development grants in 2026, and preferential treatment when being designated as a Gyeongsangnam-do recommended product with QC certification.
An official from Geochang-gun stated, "Despite challenging circumstances, more works were submitted than in previous years, which demonstrated the passion of local craft artists. We will continue to actively support the discovery of outstanding craft artists in Geochang-gun and the development of their works."
