Ansansi to Establish a More Robust Local Safety Net... "Ilsacheonri Public Safety Meeting" Expanded to 10 Districts

Strengthening Community-Based Public Safety Networks
Lee Mingeun, Mayor: "We Will Build a More Comprehensive Public Safety Framework"

Ansansi in Gyeonggi Province is working to establish a robust, field-oriented public safety network tailored to the unique characteristics of each district.

On July 9, Ansansi announced that it will fully expand the "Ilsacheonri Public Safety Meeting," the city’s main inter-agency public safety body, into a community-centered, local-focused structure.

The city plans to establish a meeting system in each of its ten local districts to identify and address district-specific public safety issues, thereby implementing policies that reflect the unique needs of each area. Accordingly, on July 3, the city held its first district-level public safety meeting in the "Singil District," which covers Singil-dong, Wongok-dong, and Baegun-dong.

The "Ilsacheonri Public Safety Meeting" was established by the city in November 2023 to enable rapid response to public safety issues. It brings together the mayor, the heads of Ansan Sangnok Police Station, Ansan Danwon Police Station, Ansan Fire Station, and the Ansan Office of Education?five key institutions in the city.

To date, the group has held 12 meetings, addressing issues such as: developing response measures to the healthcare crisis caused by collective action in the medical community; establishing public safety plans for the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays; conducting joint site inspections and hazardous materials facility guidance; maritime patrols and marine safety checks; and responding to major seasonal and periodical issues such as the college entrance exam and year-end holidays.

Through these meetings, the group has achieved results such as: preventing casualties in the Gojan-dong motel fire incident and supporting major accident prevention; reducing local crime rates and the number of 112 emergency calls; and expanding safety infrastructure, including increasing the number of CCTV cameras.

This expansion and reorganization of the "Ilsacheonri Public Safety Meeting" is being implemented in conjunction with the city’s 40th anniversary of elevation to city status and the 30th anniversary of local autonomy, with the goal of transforming the existing model into a more community-focused system. The existing meeting will continue to serve as the control tower for coordinating and deciding citywide public safety agendas, while the district-level meetings will focus on identifying and resolving specific local issues, operating in a complementary manner.

The ten local districts are: Wolpi District, Sadong District, Sangnok 1 District, Sangnok 2 District, Banwol District, Gojan District, Choji District, Seonbu District, Singil District, and Daebu District. Each district meeting will be organized around one of the city’s ten 119 Safety Centers, with participation from local leaders such as those from the administrative welfare centers, police substations and precincts, and elementary and middle schools.

At the actual Singil District public safety meeting, participating local leaders discussed monitoring vulnerable areas for flood and storm damage and implementing proactive safety measures. They agreed to establish a collaborative system with goals including: strengthening public awareness campaigns; conducting frequent inspections of high-risk areas; ensuring rapid dissemination of information; and preparing swift support measures in the event of a disaster.

Lee Mingeun, mayor of Ansansi, stated, "Over the past year, we have built a successful standard collaboration model called the 'Ansansi Citizen Safety Model' through close cooperation and solidarity among all stakeholders. Based on these successful cases, we will continue to strengthen the framework for public safety even further."
