The telecommunications market has heated up in July following SK Telecom's decision to waive early termination fees in response to the recent USIM hacking incident. Competition among telecom companies to attract subscribers is intensifying, with each provider strengthening membership benefits and expanding bundled services.


On the 9th, SK Telecom announced that it will launch a new subscription service for the online video platform TVING for its subscribers. SK Telecom's T Universe TVING subscription service allows users to access the TVING ad-supported standard plan, which normally costs 5,500 won per month, for 4,500 won?1,000 won less than the regular price. On the 15th, the company also plans to release a new bundled product that combines TVING and Naver Webtoon.


As the number of SK Telecom subscribers switching to other telecom providers reached 17,488 on the 7th and 13,710 on the 8th, the company has taken action to prevent further loss of its existing customers.

Previously, SK Telecom announced that it would waive early termination fees for customers who cancel their service by the 14th. However, the company also stated that customers who are unable to cancel within the designated period due to unavoidable reasons such as being overseas or serving in the military will be eligible for a fee waiver if they submit supporting documentation at a later date.


KT has been running a "Welcome Event" for customers who subscribed after April. VIP-level customers receive a one-month free subscription to the Lotte Rent-a-Car vehicle management service, while all customers receive KT Alpha Shopping discount coupons and free vouchers for LaundryGo. Starting in August, VIP and higher-tier customers will also receive free movie coupons. In the first half of this year alone, KT added more than 20 new partner companies, including Banolim Pizza, Aquafield, and LaundryGo.


LG Uplus has also recently expanded the number of partners in its "U+TwoPlus" membership benefits program to a record 44, offering various discounts and complimentary services.
