Cultural Heritage Administration Holds Memory of the World Capacity-Building Workshop in Panama

Explanation of Procedures and Know-how Needed for Developing Countries

The Cultural Heritage Administration and the Korean National Commission for UNESCO will hold the "UNESCO Memory of the World International Capacity-Building Workshop" in Panama City for three days starting July 9, 2025 (local time). The workshop will provide developing countries with information on the procedures and know-how required for the inscription of documentary heritage.

The event will be attended by officials responsible for documentary heritage inscription applications from countries including the Dominican Republic, Belize, Suriname, Sint Maarten, Aruba, Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Paraguay. Jan Bos, Chair of the International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World Programme, and Joy Springer, Chair of the Memory of the World Register Subcommittee, will also participate as advisors.


The Cultural Heritage Administration will introduce the current status and trends of the Memory of the World Programme. It will share the activities of the National and Asia-Pacific Committees, and provide guidance on the application procedures and instructions for completing application forms. There will also be a program to review, supplement, and evaluate the application presentations from participating countries.


A representative from the Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "Over the past decade, eighteen items have been inscribed on the international register and eleven on the regional register of the Memory of the World Programme." The representative added, "Through this workshop, we aim to lay the groundwork for the inscription of documentary heritage that holds significance for all humanity."
