Gyeonggi Province has investigated high-income professionals and others with overdue local taxes, recovering 930 million won in back taxes.
On July 9, Gyeonggi Province announced that from April to June, it conducted a comprehensive investigation into 603 individuals, including high-income professionals and executives or employees of large corporations and public institutions, each of whom owed more than 1 million won in local taxes. As a result, the province collected 930 million won in local taxes from these individuals. For those who did not comply with voluntary payment, the province seized a total of 1.65 billion won in wages.
The subjects of this investigation included professionals in medical, legal, financial, and media fields, as well as executives and employees of large corporations and public institutions, all with annual salaries of at least 100 million won. Their total overdue tax amount reached 4.7 billion won.
For example, Dentist A, who earns over 400 million won annually, had long been delinquent on 35 million won in local income tax. However, after being notified of the impending seizure of medical fees and equipment, he immediately paid the full amount. Similarly, Employee B at a large corporation voluntarily paid 70 million won in acquisition tax after being warned of wage seizure for non-payment.
Gyeonggi Province plans to continue active enforcement against intentional tax delinquents through ongoing monitoring and further analysis.
No Seungho, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Tax Justice Division, stated, "Tax evasion by high-income earners undermines tax justice," adding, "We will continue strong collection efforts to ensure that honest taxpayers can have confidence in the system."
