Goheung County Selected for "Living Condition Improvement" Project by Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development

Two Villages, Gasan and Seongdu, Selected
Total Project Budget of 4.7 Billion Won Allocated

Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Gong Youngmin) announced on July 9 that Gasan Village in Gwakyuk-myeon and Seongdu Village in Duwon-myeon have been finally selected for the "2026 Rural Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project" hosted by the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development.

The purpose of this project is to improve the quality of life in rural areas with poor residential environments by expanding essential living infrastructure, supporting resident-led environmental improvements, and restoring community functions. The main components of the project include upgrading living infrastructure, renovating old houses, establishing community facilities, and operating human care and capacity-building programs.

Since the beginning of this year, the county has systematically prepared for the project application by forming village promotion committees and continuously holding resident briefings. After passing the on-site evaluation by South Jeolla Province in April and the in-person evaluation by the Presidential Committee in June, Gasan Village and Seongdu Village were finally selected.

A total project budget of 4.7 billion won (including 3.3 billion won in national funding) will be invested, and the project will be implemented over four years starting next year. Through this, comprehensive village improvement projects will be carried out, including maintenance of village roads and old fences, renovation of slate roofs, housing improvements, establishment of community facilities, and support for resident care and education.

Governor Gong Youngmin stated, "The selection for this project is a valuable achievement made possible by the joint efforts of the administration and village residents," and added, "We will continue to focus all our capabilities on improving underdeveloped rural infrastructure and bringing about changes in daily life that residents can truly feel."
