An ozone advisory was issued at 6:00 p.m. on July 8 for five cities in the southern Gyeonggi region, including Yongin.
According to the Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Environment, the affected areas are Yongin, Pyeongtaek, Icheon, Anseong, and Yeoju. As of 6:00 p.m., the hourly average ozone concentration in these areas was 0.1338 ppm (parts per million).
Previously, an ozone advisory had also been issued for 11 cities in the central region. An ozone advisory is issued when the hourly average ozone (O₃) concentration in the air is 0.12 ppm or higher. An ozone warning is issued at 0.30 ppm or higher, and an ozone emergency warning is issued at 0.50 ppm or higher.
When an ozone advisory is in effect, the elderly, children, and people with respiratory or heart conditions should refrain from outdoor activities. It is also recommended that the general public avoid outdoor activities or strenuous exercise.
