Concerns among residents are growing as a series of jumping incidents continue at the Jesuksan Cloud Bridge in Namgu, Gwangju, including the recent death of a man in his 40s who fell to his death after crossing over the railing.
According to Namgu District Office and Nambu Police Station in Gwangju on July 8, a report was received at around 3:15 p.m. that day that a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, had fallen from the Jesuksan Cloud Bridge. Upon receiving the report, fire authorities responded to the scene, rescued Mr. A, and transported him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead.
Since its installation in 1999, the Jesuksan Cloud Bridge has been the site of repeated jumping incidents. Since official records began in 2017, there have been nine such cases, including Mr. A's, resulting in a total of eight deaths from falls.
Previously, on June 20, another man in his 40s fell from beneath the Jesuksan Cloud Bridge and was seriously injured. In February and April of this year, two more people fell from the bridge and were found in cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, Namgu District Office in Gwangju is pursuing plans to create a green tunnel beneath the Jesuksan Cloud Bridge, where fall incidents have frequently occurred.
